Fly's Eye

I found (2/2/2012) a dead fly, lopped off its head, and took a photo of the head with my macro lens (focal length of 105mm). I used the Helicon app to stack 23 photos for the photo to the right.

I then put the head under my Celestron microscope to take the photos shown below. The microscope images are also the result of stacking. Three of the photos are at a magnification of 40X and one at 100X (upper right) which is a portion of the upper left image.

Compare the fly's eye to the wasp eye.
