The day started off with the rising Sun casting a warm red glow on the sea looking out west from our balcony. After breakfast we headed out for our first dive at Something Special. The goal was to find the Frogfish talked about on Dive Friends Facebook page. We were parked at the Something Special site getting our gear together when a fellow, Peter, from Massachusetts pullled nearby and also started getting ready for a dive. He told us he had seen us getting our tanks at the Dive Friends shop and we talked about finding the Frogfish. Linda and I entered the water as Peter was finishing his preps. We didn't have much luck finding our target using the hints posted on the Dive Friends site but we ran into Peter, underwater, who led us to the Frogfish. What a treat. In our 300 or so Bonaire dives we only saw a Frogfish one other time in an early dive and that one was stationary. This one moved around. I got some good photos and Linda put together an awesome video.
Below are two of my photos of the Frogfish and you can find Linda's Frogfish video here. In the video, notice the the Frogfish is both walking and swimming as he moves from coral to coral.
The second Frogfish photo shows its lure. The photo at the far right shows a Parrotfish munching on coral with blue stovepipe sponge in the background. Below - Hawksbill Turtle, Spanish Hogfish and Trunkfish. Our afternoon dive was in front of the Bellafonte.
